Bigg Boss Season 8: A rehash of the past year

Were we watching a rerun of Bigg Boss Season 7 with new faces, or was it really a new season, with a fresh concept? The problem with casting in accordance with a preset formula for a reality show is that while it might work in the long run, in the short term, as in right at the start, it makes the show boring. And that is what happened last night with the first episode of Bigg Boss Season 8. 

Colors channel seems to think that a super cramped setting (the set resembles the interiors of a crashed aeroplane), three contestants (actress Deepshikha Nagpal, actor Puneet Issar and radio jockey Preetam) with powers to lord over the other 12 contestants, and Salman Khan in a pilot’s outfit is enough variability from the last season. In a reality show like Bigg Boss, the big surprise is the contestants and they should not be in the same mould as what has been seen in the past season. Unfortunately, the makers seem to have ignored that aspect completely. Besides, Salman Khan looked bored, which is not something you expect from your highly paid celebrity judge at the start of the season. Big Boss Season 7 had a yesteryear producer’s “actor” son who had failed to make a mark in Bollywood. This year we have a politician and yesteryear actor’s son who is in the same boat. Will Aarya Babbar have the same anger management issues like Armaan Kohli? Most likely, but will it make for an interesting viewing? Last season had an ex-heroine who started out with big banners but ended up with no work eventually. This year Minissha Lamba is filling the slot of Tanisha Mukerjee. Lamba claims that she will be the peacemaker in the house and seems to have all the initial I-Am-Ms-Goody-Two-Shoes attributes that Mukerjee had. The only difference being that she doesn’t look as fit or glamorous as Mukerjee did and neither does she have a famous Bollywood family on the outside who are uncomfortable with her doing this show.

The romantic pairing has already started. Actor Upen Patel is likely to be the Casanova like Kushal Tandon was last year. Eager to fill in Gauhar Khan’s shoes is TV actress Sukirti Kandpal, but she is out of her depth here. Our feeling is that Patel will play the field (housemates include Soni Singh, Karishma Tanna and Sonali Raut), unlike Tandon who stuck with Khan through the season. And the obsession with having a foreign element in the house continues from last season. Will Serbian model Natasha Stankovic, who was seen with Ranveer Singh in a condom advert and has done an item number for the film Satyagraha, fit into Elli Avram’s space or will she be like Hazel Keech? We think Stankovic will have a smooth run for the first few weeks, but there are just too many leggy babes (think Tanna and Singh) in this season who will want her out of the frame, fast. Of course, there is the mandatory gay contestant like in the last season but will Mr Gay India 2014, Sushant Divgikar, be a patch on VJ Andy? At present he seems to be sticking to every stereotype there is about gays, including flaunting his legs in shorts, and even in a pink nightgown.

The only deviation from the norm is the absence of a married couple (Shilpa Saklani and Apurva Agnihotri, season 7) and a divorced one (Delnaaz Irani and Rajev Paul, season 6) and a social do-gooder (Sampat Pal Devi, season 6). We don’t know about you, but we are unlikely to watch the first few weeks of the show while the contestants dance the same dance that we saw last season.

VIDEO: Happy New Year: Shahrukh Khan Accepts Salman Khan's Bigg Boss Invitation, Says 'I Would Definitely Go for That'

Shahrukh Khan has accepted Salman Khan's invitation to promote Happy New Year in Bigg Boss House, depending on PR plans. 

At the music launch of his upcoming movie, the Chak De India star was asked if he will pay a visit to the Bigg Boss house. He diplomatically replied: "It depends on what the marketing team has decided on the promotional activities of this film."

However, the actor added: "But given an opportunity and if everything permits, I would definitely go for that. It is very gracious of Salman bhai and Bigg Boss that they have thought of me," reported Business Of Cinema.

Previously, Salman Khan was asked whether he would be OK with promoting SRK's Happy New Year at Bigg Boss 8 in a recent promotional event.

The actor and producer candidly replied, "We will promote Happy New Year. It's their [HNY team's] decision; if they want to promote, then we can." 

Bigg Boss 8 is set to hit the television screens on 21 September on Colors TV.

Recently Happy New Year music was launched with great pomp and grandeur in Mumbai. Happy New Year will be released on 24 October for the Diwali holiday this year.

Kapil Sharma's Verbal Spat with Ajaz Khan and his Other Controversies

Post the success of "Comedy Nights With Kapil" (CNWK), master comedian Kapil Sharma became a household name. From doing shows abroad to anchoring award ceremonies, Sharma has done it all. Unfortunately, the unprecedented success came with a huge price.

From engaging in a Twitter spat with Kamal Rashid Khan (KRK) to the ouster of Sunil Grover, Sharma has often found himself entangled in controversies.

Recently "Bigg Boss 7" contestant Ajaz Khan has lashed out at the funnyman for not airing his show. According to reports, Khan had shot an episode with Sharma for "CNWK" but the clip hasn't travelled out of the edit room yet.

"I was called by Kapil and team to shoot for "Comedy Nights With Kapil" as a celebrity. I shot the show at 2 am in the morning but the show has not been aired yet. I tried to get in touch with Kapil several times but he never replied. So, we were at a party, I saw him there and just went and asked him about my show. There was nothing wrong in it," Khan told The Indian Express.

Sharma, on the other hand, confronted the allegations saying that the "Khatron Ke Khiladi" participant was putting up such a show for publicity. "Kapil told me I did all this for publicity. But no I don't want any publicity. I am already known and I have my own fans," Khan added.

Sharma, however, reportedly justified his stand on the matter by informing that the channel decides on the logistics of the show and he isn't responsible for any of it.

While the verbal spat continues, Sharma has been the victim of unnecessary war of words on social media sites. Kamal Rashid Khan, who calls himself actor, director, producer and lyricist, openly criticized "CNWK" and said that 'girls are being exploited'.

Sharma, obviously reacted to it by posting that both KRK's house and face will be broken by him if he doesn't quit writing made up stuff. However, the argument got really heated up with the two hurling abuses at each other. Sharma, however, later apologised to his fans for behaving inappropriately.

Sunil Grover's ouster from "CNWK" was another event which drew major flak. Rumours were rife that insecurity made the host exit Grover from the show. The comedian, who launched his own show "Mad In India", didn't succeed in his ventures and eventually returned to the popular show.

Alleged affair with colleague Preeti Simoes, rough behavior at Celebrity Cricket League, and exit from Yash Raj Films' three-film-deal, are some of the other conjectures that have doused the otherwise clean image of the stand-up comedian.

OMG: Best friends Kamya, Pratyusha fight over Karan?

Kamya Punjabi and Pratyusha Banerjee, who were joined at the hip inside the Bigg Boss house last season, continued to remain inseparable outside, too. However, all good things come to an end and if insiders are to be believed, so has their friendship.

 

What is the reason? Apparently, they fought over actor Karan Patel. In the past few months, there have been reports about Kamya and Karan being close, even though the two have denied it. Said a source, “Kamya suspected Pratyusha of developing a liking for Karan and confronted her. Pratyusha was hurt when Kamya accused her of hitting on Karan.”

However, when contacted, Kamya said, “Not true.” Pratyusha replied, “We are best friends and will always remain so. We are very much on talking terms.” When asked if Karan was the reason behind the brewing distance, Pratyusha said, “Nothing like that.” Kamya reacted angrily saying, “What nonsense is this? Are we still in school? At least, I am not.”

But our source maintained, “Kamya and Pratyusha appear cordial as they can’t talk about the reason behind their animosity in public.”

Pornstar Sunny Leone falls prey to casting couch in Bollywood!

Sunny Leone, who was signed on by a filmmaker for a Hindi film, became a victim to his horny plans, says Bollywood grapevine. The filmmaker was too keen to get cosy with the sexy pornstar during the making of the film, but his plans possibly couldn’t work out. After all his unsuccessful attempts, he approached Sunny Leone‘s husband and manager Daniel Weber with a porn film offer starring the Ragini MMS 2 star.

What’s more, the unspecified filmmaker wanted to star with Sunny in the film! He supposedly wanted to make this film for his private collection. However, Sunny’s husband Daniel Weber made it clear to the horny producer to get the idea out of his head.

- Mardaani star Rani Mukerji’s brother Raja Mukherjee was also accused of molesting TV actor Priya Mishra when she approached him with a script.

- Starlet Preeti Jain accused Fashion director Madhur Bhandarkar of raping her for years under the impression of giving her a role in a film, making it one of the most famous casting couch scandals in 2004.

- Actress and Bigg Boss 2 contestant Payal Rohatgi had accused director Dibakar Banerjee of making attempts to sexually exploit her for a role in a movie. However, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, Banerjee’s best friend, defended him stating Payal as ‘mentally unstable’.

- As told to DESIblitz, UK-based singer and rapper Hard Kaur was also approached as a newcomer in Bollywood.

Casting couch cases are not just limited to females in Bollywood, but even male celebs fall victim to such instances:

- Popular singer Sonu Nigam publicly accused Subash K Jha, prominent film critic and journalist, for making sexual harassment attempts. According to the singer, Jha began to criticise Sonu in his articles when the latter turned him off.

- Actor Priyanshu Chatterjee was asked for sexual favours by some filmmaker. The filmmaker promised him a role for a film, which was never made.

- Model Bobby Vats reports to have quit the fashion industry for the same reason.

Kapil Sharma in a spat with ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant Ajaz Khan

Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma has been caught in another controversy after his Twitter spat with ‘Deshdrohi’ actor Kamal R Khan last month. This time the ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ host was accused by former ‘Bigg Boss7′ contestant Ajaz Khan of not airing his episode nor taking his calls.

Ajaz Khan, who shot an episode with Kapil Sharma for ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ a couple of months ago, has accused him of not airing the episode while both of them were present for an album launch in Mumbai.

In a video shown by a leading news channel, Ajaz can be seen accusing Kapil publicly. Interrupting Kapil Sharma, Ajaz said, “I thought you were a good man. I messaged you, tweeted you and even called you. But you did not answer anywhere. I was called as a celebrity and I am a celebrity. My script was changed but then I asked you and added my own dialogues. Tell me the truth.”

To this Kapil kept on saying, “We will soon show your gag.”

Kapil Sharma further tried to calm down Ajaz with a hug but it seemed Ajaz Khan was not going to take no for an answer.

“As an actor you should have at least replied to me. Everyone knew about it, I tweeted. You replied to Kamaal Khan who abused you but not to me,” Ajaz further said.

The star comedian couldn’t say anything but this, “We will air your show soon.” He also explained that at times certain episodes are shot for banks and aired according to the film’s release dates.

Ajaz Khan was last seen in stunt reality show ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’.

Sharing her excitement about the news, starlet in an interview to E! Online said, "The experience of having shot for Playboy has been one of the most liberating ones that I've had so far."

Spotted: Tanishaa and Tanuja at Raj Kapoor Awards

We had reported about veteran actress Tanuja and National award winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar being given The Raj Kapoor awards, the highest awards by the Maharashtra Government. And now, Tanuja received the honour for her lifetime contribution to the industry.

Tanuja has not only given super hit Hindi films but recently the actress also delivered a power-packed performance in a Marathi film titled ‘Pitruroon’. At the awards function, Tanuja was accompanied by her daughter Tanishaa Mukerji, of ‘Bigg Boss’ fame.

The mother and daughter were seen talking away and onlookers couldn’t help but notice the brilliant chemistry and bonding the two share. While Tanuja chose to wear a beautiful crème sari teamed with pearls, daughter Tanishaa Mukerji was seen in a lovely green Indo western outfit by designer Vaishali S. Seems like Tanishaa was pretty excited about her mom being given the award as she tweeted, “Mom to receive the Raj Kapoor lifetime achievement award! Rohit Shetty to direct Salman Khan?

The reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi got back its lost sheen, all thanks to the host and director Rohit Shetty, who not just played the host but came up with some terrific promos for the show. The last season of Khatron Ke Khiladi was a hit, and now the channel wants Shetty to work his mojo on Bigg Boss 8 as well.

It is being said that Rohit Shetty has been approached by the channel Colors to direct special promos for Bigg Boss 8 to be hosted by the one and only Salman Khan.

Will Salman Khan be part of these promos? Going by the trend in the previous seasons, none of the ‘Bigg Boss’ promos are without Salman.
 
“The channel is willing to spend lavishly for the promos of the upcoming season of Bigg Boss. The creative team has asked Rohit (Shetty) to come down and direct special promos in Bangkok,” a source is quoted as saying by a tabloid.

The director has apparently asked the production house to wait for a couple of days as his film, Singham Returns, will hit the big screen this Independence Day. It’s learnt that post the release of his film, Rohit will fly to Bangkok to shoot the promos.

Like Salman Khan, Rohit Shetty, too, is a man credited with several blockbusters, but he and Salman are yet to work together.

But unless something like a Lamhe (where Sridevi played both mother and daughter) happens to her, or a film like Nishabd where Jiah Khan wooed a much-older Amitabh Bahchcan, she stands to lose out on working with today’s superstars — the three Khans, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and Ajay Devgn — who are all in their mid or late-40s.

All her heroes (except Randeep who is in his 30s) so far are all in their 20s and just a few years older than her. And so far, she has played her age in her films. This is quite unlike her contemporary Sonakshi Sinha, who has been paired with Salman Khan, Akshay and Ajay right from the beginning of her career.

Alia’s father, Mahesh Bhatt says, “It all depends on the narrative of the script. The question is: Can you make a credible pair of two people of different age frequencies? I don’t see that unless it has been clearly defined. In a mainstream Bollywood film, it all depends on the vision of the filmmaker and his narrative which makes it obligatory for the casting to happen. If it doesn’t, then there are chances of the senior actor-younger actress pairing being dismissed at the casting stage!”

Bihar politician with criminal past to join 'Big Boss 8'?

Kundan Singh, a politician with a criminal past, says that the producer of reality TV show "Bigg Boss" has approached him for the forthcoming season.

"The producer requested me to work in the show. I have asked him to give me some time to decide. I will let him know about my decision when he will call me again," Singh, who is not associated with any political party right now, told reporters here Thursday.

If sources are to be believed, the makers of "Bigg Boss" are keen to rope in at least two real 'bahubalis' with a criminal track record from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Singh has allegedly been named in over a dozen criminal cases, including those of murder, kidnapping and extortion.

"Bigg Boss" is aired on Colors and when IANS contacted it, the channel refused to comment.

Apart from the actors and models, the controversial show hosted politician Sanjay Nirupam in the second season and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and Gulabi Gang leader Sampat Pal in "Bigg Boss 6".

Taslima Nasreen turns down offer for 'Bigg Boss 8'

Forget the speculation on who'll be in Bigg Boss Season 8, we now know about one for sure who wouldn't be in it. Taslima Nasreen on Sunday tweeted that she had politely first — and then impolitely — turned down a request from Colours to be a part of Bigg Boss Season 8. Nasreen awaits the extension of her residential permit, set to expire on August 17, and has already met union home minister Rajnath Singh to extend her stay in India, beyond the now two-month tourist visa given to her.

"Colors TV called. Wants me in Bigg Boss. I politely refused. Said, 'u'll get chance 2 show urslf 2 world & u'll get money'. Then I impolitely refused," Nasreen tweeted on Sunday. There was no independent confirmation from Colours on this. Later speaking to ToI, Nasreen said, "I have seen the programme fleetingly. It is entertaining but it is definitely not within my range of interest. They tried to convince me but I turned down the proposal. As it is I am very reluctant with this TV shows. I hardly attend any, even if it is a panel discussion. They proposed a big remuneration but I declined. Even they had offered me to propagate my idea of women's rights in the show, but still as it did not gel with my ethos, I am not participating in it."

The Bangladesh born author who is now staying in Delhi and her residence permit which expires on August 17, the Centre last week provided her a two month tourist visa. This had left Taslima panicky and as a knee jerk response she had met Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday. Taslima said, the home minister assured her to take care of her case.

Bigg Boss season 8 has been at the centre of speculation on whether Salman Khan would host it again and who the participants would be. From Sunny Leone's husband, Daniel Weber to Playboy model Shanti Dynamite, media has been abuzz with several names. It is therefore expected that Nasreen's tweet immediately provoked several comments. Infact one tweeted, "@taslimanasreen HAHAHAHAHAHA this cracked me up." The others bordered on supporting to her decision to plain non-chalence. "Why Refuse? a chance to meet an incredible lot of .... that would have inspired u to write an Epic!" wrote another.

For Nasreen, however, it isn't the right time for all this. Grateful that her plight had evoked support from Press Council of India chairperson Justice Markandey Katju, senior journalists Swapan Dasgupta and Madhu Kishwar, Nasreen wrote, "Thanks a million to everyone for all your support. It means a lot to me. I'm not feeling homeless now. Your love is my home, my country." She said she hasn't received the residential permit yet as reported in a section of the media. "I haven't received any phone call from Home Ministry. Nobody told me I have been granted RP. HM told me it would be granted," she clarified. But the writer hasn't lost her sense of humour too. "I met Honorable Home Minister Rajnath Singhji this afternoon. Gave him my book 'Wo Andhere Din'. He said,' Aapka Andhere Din Khatam Ho Jayega'"

Bigg Boss 8: Zeenat Aman, Purab Kohli to participate in Salman Khan’s show?

All the speculations came to an end when we exclusively told you that Salman Khan has been confirmed to host Bigg Boss 8, which will hit the television screens from August instead of October this year. However, rumours have been rife as far as the contestants are concerned.

While the makers of the high voltage reality show are busy approaching several celebrities to be inside the glass walled house, a little birdie has informed us that veteran actor Zeenat Aman and Purab Kohli might be on the final contestants list this year.

It would be interesting to see Zeenat inside the house of horrors considering her murky past. Many of you might know this, but the actor was physically assaulted in a public party by her first husband Sanjay Khan, whom she married in a secret ceremony. The fight between them was so violent that she lost vision. Her second husband Mazhar Khan, with whom she has two sons Azaan and Zahaan used to beat her up often which ultimately led to their filing for a divorce.

As for Purab, he will surely be the eye candy of the house this year. With those cute looks, all the women inside the house will surely be after him.

If they both agree to do Bigg Boss 8, it will indeed be very interesting to see them inside the house, hai na?

How Salman Khan came on board

A change in fee and schedule finally persuaded the star to host Big Boss 8 

The speculation over who will host season eight of Bigg Boss finally came to an end with the announcement that Salman Khan would continue to well, boss it over the reality show contestants. Apparently, it was his court cases and backlog of film commitments that were his priority, and which is why the superstar was reconsidering his association with the show. But it looks like Salman has succeeded in sorting out his schedule. 

“After Kick, Salman has presented the channel and production house for BB with his new remuneration. They have unanimously agreed to hike his fees by 30 percent,” said a source in the know. According to our sources, this brings the actor’s remuneration per week to `8.5 crores, which would make Salman the highest paid actor on Indian television. 

After several meetings between the channel, the production house and the actor’s management team, Salman finally consented to BB8 last week. Since Salman has dates available for the show and the makers are willing to pay him the price he has quoted, the deal has finally materialised. 

“Salman sells and how! Be it television or films, the box office collection of his films or the TRPs of his shows, Salman has the Midas touch. Having Salman on board is a win-win situation,” says a trade analyst. 

According to sources from the channel, Big Boss 8 has been brought forward by a few weeks. The show was supposed to go on air in September but changes were made as per Salman’s availability. Seventy per cent of the casting for the show is already complete. The word is that Salman has asked the channel to create a special space for his girlfriend Lulia Vantur on the show. “The production house has been in talks with Lulia but there is no confirmation on that front yet. Having Lulia on the show might trigger allegations against Salman of being biased. So, we’re yet to take a call on that,” our sources said. In the past, the channel has given leeway to Salman to include two contestants of his choice on the show. Lets see who gets lucky this time.
